Car import duty to Armenia
Car details
A hybrid is charged from the petrol table. An electric car goes under the EAEU duty-free quota.
Bracket boundaries are inclusive: 1500 cc falls into the “up to 1500” bracket. On cars under 3 years old, displacement matters only for petrol engines above 2800 cc.
Age is taken as the difference between calendar years. The rate breaks at 3 and at 7 years.
The rate against the dram is filled in automatically and stays editable.
Part of the customs value on a par with the price of the car, and taxed on the same terms.
The customs value is converted into drams at this rate. The percentage duty, VAT and the environmental tax all depend on it.
Needed only for the per-cc rates, which are set in euros. On cars under 3 years old it does not affect the result.
- In Armenia an individual does not pay the single aggregate payment under EEC Decision No. 107. They pay duty under the EAEU Common Customs Tariff, 20% VAT as a separate line and the environmental tax. The rates of 48–54% and 1.5–5.7 €/cc often quoted “for individuals” come from the Decision No. 107 tables, and they do not apply to passenger cars in Armenia.
- The environmental tax is charged once, on import: 0 up to 5 years inclusive, 2% for 6–10 years, 10% for 11–15, 20% for 16 and older; electric cars and hybrids are exempt. Do not confuse it with the annual emissions tax paid by the owner of a car already registered in Armenia — the rates there are different and markedly lower.
- No excise is charged on imports of passenger cars (category M1, HS 8703): article 84 of the Armenian Tax Code applies it only to trucks and to motorcycles above 500 cc. The line is left at zero to show that it was accounted for.
- The calculation takes age as the difference between calendar years, whereas customs counts it from the date of manufacture. The rate breaks at 3 and 7 years: if the car is about to reach either, the payment may land in the neighbouring bracket — such lots are better cleared sooner.
- Shipping to Armenia, storage and terminal charges, customs agent services and registration are not included.
